Elders & Interns

Tom Kim

Tom has been with New Community Church since its inception in 1998. Serving as an elder, his heart’s desire is to see men grow into godly men in their homes as spiritual leaders and loving husbands and fathers. He believes that when men follow biblical principles set out for a husband, the entire family will be impacted, and, ultimately, society will follow suit. He has been married to his loving wife, Jeongwon, since 1993. Together they have two wonderful daughters, Eunbee and Dahnbee, who also love the Lord.

DC (David) Kim

Born in Korea, DC lived in Japan as a child, moved to the US at the age of 9, and grew up in Philadelphia and Boston. He attended the Naval Academy and The University of Chicago. When he finished graduate school, he landed a job at Kmart/Sears in strategy and buying. DC has been an active member of New Community since 2002. He has served in welcoming, leading Bible studies, and discipleship groups. While he acknowledges New Community is not a perfect church, he realizes he is not perfect and is thankful to be in a church that challenges and supports one another to be more Christ-like. He is excited about the future of the church, especially with members joining the discipleship movement. DC has been married to Cindy for almost 26 years. He enjoys reading, playing board games, golfing, sewing, watching college football & K-dramas.

Jeff Yu

Born in Michigan, Jeff moved a year later to Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Right before 8th grade, his family then moved to Augusta, Georgia where he lived until college. He attended Case Western Reserve University for undergrad, then Morehouse School of Medicine for medical school. While attending InterVarsity in undergrad, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. Upon completion of medical school, Jeff moved to Chicago for internship and residency, and eventually landed a full-time job. He has been an active member of New Community since 2006. He has served as a bible study leader, at camera and video production on Sundays, and deacon. As he looks ahead, he is grateful that New Community is committed to the preaching of God's Word, to growing mature disciples, and to seeking to fulfill the Great Commission. In his free time, Jeff enjoys watching movies and playing tennis.

Elizabeth De velasco

Elizabeth joined New Community in the Fall of 2020. She is originally from Texas and is currently studying at the Moody Bible Institute for a degree in Ministry to Women. She serves as the Youth Ministry Intern and has loved getting to know the youth students and fellow CM & YM teachers. She helps teach and encourage youth students by holding them accountable and teaching them the importance of obeying and following God. Elizabeth is passionate about growing in intimacy with God and following Him in obedience, humility, and faith. She desires to see other believers grow in intimacy with the Lord and understand who they are in Christ.

Children's Ministry Intern

Eunbee has been with New Community Church since the very beginning, bopping and raising her hands in worship since 1998. As a ministry intern, she’s blessed to continuously learn from those God has placed in her midst, in both children’s ministry and on the praise team! Her greatest joy lies in building Christ-centered relationships grounded in the reality of Biblical truth, striving towards being iron sharpening iron within the body.

When Eunbee’s not at church, she spends her days concepting social strategy for brands. In her free time, she loves traveling the world to discover God’s creation in new contexts and find the best coffee shops to hole up and read in.

Paul Sung

Worship Ministry Intern

Paul has been with New Community Church since its inception in 1998. He grew up in the Chicagoland area and moved overseas to Indonesia, Korea, and China, graduating from high school in Shenzhen, China. He graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with a degree in computer engineering in 2018. Paul grew to know the Lord in college, and upon returning home, he committed to New Community. He has served as a Children's Ministry teacher, Youth Ministry teacher, and now serves as the Worship Intern where he has the privilege of seeking the Lord’s will in his life as he leads praise and serves alongside his brothers and sisters. Paul is passionate about growing in his relationship with the Lord and growing alongside God’s community, and he is very excited to see where the Lord takes him next. He enjoys playing video games, creating digital art, watching anime, and listening to a growing playlist of the same Christian songs over and over again.
