What We Believe

Our Vision

Our vision is the same mission Jesus gave his followers: Fulfilling the Great Commission: Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Our Mission

Our mission is to make mature disciples by building a biblically functioning community with people who enjoy the grace of God and are willing to share it.

OUR CORE BELIEFS

These are our core beliefs, which are based on the foundational truths taught in the Bible.

All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flow out of these biblical doctrines.

The Bible

We believe the Bible, both the Old and New Testaments, to be the Word of God, written by human authors under the full inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and therefore, without error.

The Bible is the complete revelation of God's will for the salvation and sanctification of men and women and is the supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.

God

We believe there is one God, the Creator of the universe, who is perfect in every way, in sovereign control of all things, and eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit -  each joint partakers of the same nature and majesty of God.

Jesus Christ

We believe in Jesus Christ, the one and only Son of God, who is equal with the Father, fully God, and fully human.

He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, died on a cross as a substitutionary sacrifice for fallen humanity, rose bodily from the dead as a demonstration of His power over sin and death, ascended into heaven, sits at the right hand of God the Father as our High Priest and Advocate, and will someday return to consummate history.

The Holy Spirit

We believe in the Holy Spirit who is equal with the Father and the Son.

He came forth from the Father and the Son to convict the world of sin. He empowers believers to know truth and to serve. He indwells every believer of Christ and is a helpful teacher and guide. We believe that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify Jesus Christ, and, in this age, bring conviction for sin, regenerate the believing sinner, indwell, guide, instruct, and empower the believer for character transformation, godly living and works of service.

Human Beings

We believe that people are made in the image of God and were originally created for fellowship with God.

However, since mankind's decision to turn away from God, people were and still are separated from God. We believe that men and women were created in the image of God but chose to sin. Consequently, they fell away from God. In this fallen state, people are depraved, are helpless to restore themselves to right standing with God, and in fact, are under God's just wrath. Mankind can now return to God only by the saving grace of God.

Salvation

We believe that salvation is a gift of God to mankind. Men and women cannot earn salvation by good deeds. It is only when a person trusts in Jesus Christ alone as his/her personal Savior that salvation is accomplished in a man/woman.

We believe that the substitutionary death and resurrection of Jesus Christ provide the only means for salvation for all who believe, and only those who come to God in faith and repentance, trusting in Christ's work of atonement (i.e. all that Christ did in His life and death to make provision for our salvation) will undergo spiritual regeneration and justification (i.e. being declared legally righteous before God and being adopted into God's family).

The Sacraments

Although they're not to be regarded as means of salvation, we believe that baptism by water and the Lord's Supper are sacraments to be observed by the Church during the present age.

We believe that baptism is a symbol of beginning the Christian life. We believe that the observance of the Lord's Supper should be limited to those who are Christians (this includes members and guests of New Community Church, adults and children, who have been baptized) and that believers should partake with thanksgiving, reverence, and spiritual sobriety.

The Church

We believe in the Church as the spiritual body of Christ, with Jesus as its head.

The primary job of the church is to glorify God and serve those who are in need. We believe that God has given the church the primary task of giving the Gospel to the lost world. We believe that the true Church is the community of all those who have been brought into new life through salvation in Christ throughout history.

The Future

We believe that man is created for eternity.

In the end, everyone will experience resurrection and final judgment. Those who've chosen Jesus Christ as their Savior will enjoy eternal fellowship with God, and those who've denied Jesus Christ will be eternally separated from God. We believe in the personal/corporeal/visible and imminent second-coming of Jesus Christ as King of all creation. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead: the unbeliever will be condemned to everlasting conscious punishment, and the believer will be saved unto eternal life, joy, and fellowship with God.
